RSE Curriculum
Intent
At Our Lady School, our RSE (Relationship & Sex Education) curriculum is rooted in our Catholic ethos and guided by the belief that every child is made in the image of God. Through the TenTen ‘Life to the Full’ programme, we aim to provide a holistic education that nurtures pupils’ emotional, social, physical, and spiritual development. Our intent is to help children understand the importance of healthy relationships, personal dignity, emotional wellbeing, and moral responsibility, while preparing them to navigate the complexities of modern life with confidence and compassion.
Implementation
We deliver RSE through the TenTen ‘Life to the Full’ programme, which is fully aligned with the statutory guidance and enriched by Catholic Social Teaching. The programme is taught in a spiral curriculum from EYFS to Year 6, ensuring age-appropriate progression and revisiting key themes over time. Lessons are interactive, inclusive, and grounded in Gospel values, covering three core modules:
- Created and Loved by God – exploring personal identity, self-worth, and emotional wellbeing.
- Created to Love Others – focusing on relationships, family, friendships, and respectful behaviour.
- Created to Live in Community – teaching about the wider world, responsibilities, and living out faith in action.
Our RSE curriculum is supported by prayer, reflection, and opportunities for discussion, ensuring pupils feel safe, respected, and heard. We also engage parents through regular communication and access to programme materials, fostering a shared understanding of the curriculum.
Impact
The impact of our RSE curriculum is seen in the way pupils grow in confidence, empathy, and moral understanding. They are able to articulate their feelings, make informed choices, and build respectful relationships rooted in love and dignity. Pupils demonstrate a clear understanding of how to stay safe - physically, emotionally, and online, and how to care for themselves and others. Through the ‘Life to the Full’ programme, children are empowered to live out our school values of being kind, safe, respectful, and reflective, and to flourish as compassionate members of society, rooted in faith and love.
Parent partnership
As part of our commitment to working in partnership with families, we encourage parents and carers to access the TenTen Parent Portal, which provides an overview of the RSE curriculum we follow through the Life to the Full programme. The portal offers valuable resources, videos, and guidance to help you support your child’s learning and development at home, in line with what they are exploring in school. To access the portal, please contact your child’s class teacher who will provide you with the login details. Together, we can ensure that children receive consistent messages about relationships, health, and emotional wellbeing, rooted in faith and love.
